Smart views are built-in, automatically filtered lenses over all your tasks. Unlike projects — which you create and manage manually — smart views are always available and always up to date. They surface the right tasks at the right time without any maintenance on your part. You’ll find all smart views pinned to the top of the sidebar, above your personal projects.

What are smart views?

A smart view is a dynamic query that automatically selects tasks based on predefined rules — due date, completion state, or no filter at all. As your tasks change (you complete work, add due dates, or create new tasks), smart views update in real time. There’s nothing to configure; they work the moment you open Flowtask.
Smart views do not store tasks — they are live windows into your existing task data. Deleting a task from a smart view deletes it everywhere.

Today

The Today view shows every task that needs your attention right now. It includes:
  • Tasks with a due date of today.
  • Tasks that are overdue (due date is in the past and not yet completed).
Make the Today view your daily starting point. Work through it top to bottom, and you’ll always end the day with a clear picture of what got done.
Display options:
  • Switch between list and board display using the view toggle in the toolbar.
  • Use the Filter button to narrow the view to tasks matching one or more tags.
Tasks in the Today view can be reordered by drag-and-drop just like in a project. Your custom order persists until the next time you open the view.

Upcoming

The Upcoming view gives you a 7-day rolling window of your schedule, displayed as a board with one column per day.
  • The leftmost column is always today.
  • The board shows the next 7 days by default.
  • Use the and navigation arrows to move forward or backward by one week at a time.
Changing a task’s due date by dragging: Drag any task card from one day column to another. Flowtask updates the task’s due date to match the target column — no need to open the task detail.
Use Upcoming to do your weekly planning. Each Sunday (or Monday), open the view and drag tasks to the days when you actually plan to work on them.

Completed

The Completed view is an archive of everything you’ve finished. Tasks are grouped by their completion date into four buckets:
GroupDescription
TodayTasks completed earlier today.
YesterdayTasks completed yesterday.
This WeekTasks completed earlier in the current calendar week.
OlderTasks completed more than a week ago.
From the Completed view you can:
  • Restore a task — click the ⟳ icon on a completed task to mark it incomplete and return it to your active task lists.
  • Permanently delete a task — click the 🗑 icon to remove the task entirely. This action cannot be undone.
Completed tasks are not automatically deleted. They remain in your Completed view indefinitely until you choose to delete them.

All Todos

The All Todos view is a flat, unfiltered list of every incomplete task in your account — regardless of due date, project, or section. Use All Todos when you want a complete inventory of your open work, or when you need to find a task but can’t remember which project it lives in. You can search, sort, and reorder tasks here just like in any other view.

Inbox

Inbox is your default catch-all project, also accessible from the smart views area of the sidebar. Tasks you create without a project assignment automatically land in the Inbox. For more details on how Inbox fits into the broader project model, see Projects.
