Projects are the primary way to organize related tasks in Flowtask. Think of a project as a dedicated workspace for a goal, initiative, or area of responsibility — your home renovation, a client engagement, a product launch, or anything else that deserves its own focused view. Every task in Flowtask belongs to a project, even if it’s just your default Inbox.

What is a project?

A project is a named collection of tasks. Projects appear in your sidebar and provide a focused space where you can view, create, and organize the tasks that belong together. Each project has its own display preferences, sections, and view mode, so you can tailor the experience to the type of work it contains.

Inbox

Every Flowtask account comes with a built-in Inbox project. The Inbox is your catch-all destination — tasks you create without specifying a project automatically land here.
The Inbox cannot be renamed, deleted, or converted to a regular project. It always exists as your default project to ensure no task is ever lost.
Use the Inbox as a frictionless capture zone. Quickly add tasks throughout the day without worrying about where they belong, then triage them into the right project when you have a moment to plan.

Personal projects

Beyond the Inbox, you can create as many projects as you need. Personal projects are private to your account and show up in the Projects section of the sidebar. To create a project:
  1. Click the + button next to Projects in the sidebar.
  2. Enter a project name and press Enter.
  3. The new project opens immediately, ready for tasks.
You can rename a project at any time by clicking its name in the sidebar and editing inline, or via the project settings menu (⋯).

Sections

Sections let you divide a project into logical groups. In list view, sections appear as collapsible group headers. In board view, each section becomes its own column.

Create a section

Open a project, click Add section at the bottom of the task list (or the + button next to the last column in board view), and type a section name.

Rename a section

Click directly on a section name to edit it inline. Press Enter to save or Escape to cancel.

Reorder sections

Drag the section header to a new position. In board view, drag the column header left or right.

Delete a section

Open the section menu (⋯) and choose Delete. Tasks inside the deleted section move to the project’s default (unsectioned) area.
A common pattern is to use sections as workflow stages — for example, Backlog, In Progress, and Done — and then switch to board view so each stage becomes a Kanban column.

View modes

Each project supports three display modes. Switch between them using the view selector in the project toolbar.
ModeDescription
ListTasks appear as rows in a vertical list, grouped by section. Best for sequential work and long task lists.
BoardTasks appear as cards in columns, one column per section. Best for visual workflow management (Kanban-style).
CalendarTasks appear on the calendar date that matches their due date. Best for deadline-driven work.
Your chosen view mode is saved per project, so each project can have its own preferred display.

Board view

Board view turns your project into a Kanban board. Each section becomes a column, and each task becomes a draggable card.
  • Move a task between sections — drag the task card from one column and drop it onto another column. The task’s section updates automatically.
  • Reorder within a column — drag a card up or down within the same column to set its position.
  • Add a task to a specific column — click the + button at the top or bottom of any column to create a task directly in that section.
If your project has no sections, board view will show a single unsectioned column. Add at least two sections to get the full Kanban experience.
